Are you an Introduction Agency?

Absolutely not!

An introduction agency contracts with you to meet a set number of compatible singles with a view to a relationship. They spend a lot of effort in matching their members to get the best match in the fewest meetings.

We do not match you to other members. We don't give out your phone number to other members.

We do offer you lots of chances to meet other single people. Many members do meet other members they end up in relationships with, but that is all secondary to our aim of providing you with a large group of friends to socialise with.

How are you different to speed dating?

Firstly, we are happy to provide a social life. You can meet new friends of both genders, and all ages. You will meet them regularly at dinners or the movies, not just once.

We are much more relaxed. With us, you just go out to dinner and chat normally to other new people. If you like someone, you are always welcome to ask them for their number. You have all night to get to know them, not just 8 minutes. The pressure is off!

Our pricing is far more conducive to attending regularly. Once you are a member, it only costs $5 above your meal cost to go to dinner. At that price, you can go every week or even twice a week.

How should I approach my first event?

Just book, dress to impress, and turn up.

It is your hostess's job to explain everything to you, put you at ease, seat you and introduce you to the other members. She will ensure the evening runs smoothly and everyone gets involved.

The hardest step to take is to  turn up and face the unknown. Once people pluck up the courage to attend and sit down for dinner, they invariably relax and have a great time.

How do we pay the bill at the end of the night?

To make life easier for the restaurant, we ask you to visit the ATM before you came so you can pay with cash.

At the end of the night, your hostess will gather the money and make sure it all adds up.

Do I need to book? When do bookings close?

Bookings are essential so the restaurant can allocate us tables.

What time should I arrive at the event?

Arrival time is always 7.30 PM for dinner.

If you are running late, its OK. You can just catch up or skip entree.

What’s hosting all about?

Our hostesses are all volunteers. Their job is to ensure you enjoy the night and everything runs smoothly. They lead the conversation where necessary to keep everyone involved.

They make sure the bill gets settled without anyone having to wash dishes.

If you would like to host an event, just post it on the forum. If you would also like it sent out to the mailing list, please email the full text to Corina at corina@myfriends.com.au Corina will send the email to the full list. (Please remember this is a totally free service, so Corina will do it when she gets to it.)

We are always on the lookout for new hostesses if you think you would enjoy it. Don't forget you get your dinner covered in the $5 hostess fee and if the bill works out right may even make some money.

How should I dress for most events?

Dress to impress is the best advice. Smart casual would be the best way to describe it.

We do not have rules about dress standards, but bear in mind that first impressions do count.

How do I pay for membership?

There is no charge for membership. This club is free!

Age groups

We are open to all ages and do not have specific age restrictions on any event. The group has people from 18 through to 65 and we get a cross section at every event.

The reason for no specific age groups is that the members have asked for us not to do this because it would change the relaxed no pressure approach of the club. They believe that once we start narrowing age groups, the feeling of being "matched up" increases and we would lose our relaxed atmosphere. With 20 people at almost every dinner, there will usually be someone in your age group, and always someone interesting to meet and chat with.

We can assure you that you will meet new friends and also have lots of fun.
