Welcome to My Friends.
Are you sick of trying to meet people in bars, or at dances? Have you been set up on blind dates that never seem to work? Over the "meat market" that seems to be singles dating these days? We help you socialise with a wide range of people from all ages and all backgrounds in a low pressure atmosphere that is not all about meeting your life partner today. We widen your range of friends, both male and female, and help you build a social life filled with people. Naturally, we do have many couples who have met at a My Friends function, but we also have people who are happy to socialise and are not looking for a partner. Our aim is to help you provide yourself with a new social life. You can provide a range of options for each other to select from to keep your life busy. We are not an introduction or dating agency. We don't promise you will find your love match. We don't charge introduction agency prices ... membership is totally free. Please look around the site, find out all about us, and join in ... you will be very welcome.
So, what do we do? We provide this site as a contact point and newsletter for Brisbane singles to organise themselves. This used to be a commercial business, but other time pressures have forced us to give it up. However, there are over 1000 members on the mailing list, and they still want to go out to dinners and drinks. We have left this site active to give all those people a place to organise themselves. The 2 hubs of the site are the forum and the newsletter. The forum is where you can advertise any function you wish to hold. It also has areas to review restaurants and dinners etc. The newsletter still goes to well over 1000 singles. If you want to hold a dinner, or drinks, or any other sort of get together, Corina will send the details to the mailing list. Many of our hostesses still run dinners, so they tend to run the same way as they used too ... they don't feel like high pressured matchmaking nights, or "meat markets". People of all ages attend, which reduces the feeling of everyone being there just to size you up. Numbers usually end up fairly even, but that is not guaranteed. Dinners end up being rowdy affairs with lots of laughter because everyone is relaxed and out of their defensive mode. We usually go to a local coffee shop after dinner. This gives people a good opportunity to sit with different people (with 20 people at most dinners it gets a bit hard to meet someone at the other end of the table). Most nights a group ends up heading off to the late night venues around town. New members are always welcome and invited to tag along. What does it all cost? There is no cost involved at all. We don't have anything to sell you, we won't ask you for money, and we won't change that. People who organise functions have the option of asking $5 per head on the night to cover their dinner and any shortfall in the bill, but that is purely optional. Count on chipping in an extra $5 and if the hostess decides not to charge it, that's a bonus. (none of that comes back to us, of course) Why do we do it then? Mainly because of all the wonderful friends we made when we ran this as a business. We are happy to keep this site running to help them continue to know each other. It is our way of saying "thanks". It would be nice if you could support our other business, First Aid International. What to do next?Have a look around our site. There is a lot more information in the "how it all works" and FAQ pages. Have a look at the photos from some of our events. Have a look at our forum and look for the section where you can advertise events and to see the feedback from every event we have ever held. Make the decision to join. The hardest part is walking in the door on the first night. After that, a whole new world of friends will open up for you. If you just want to sit and watch for a while, subscribe to our newsletter. It won't be long before you wish you were joining us! Subscribing to the newsletter puts you under no obligation to do anything, you can unsubscribe at any time. We don't even know who you are, just your email address. We Guarantee that we will not pass your email address on to any other person or organisation, so subscribing will not generate spam. (It is better if you don't use hotmail or yahoo addresses, as they have a bit of trouble letting our newsletters through)
